The Department of Economics
came into existence with the establishment of Kokrajhar Govt. College in 1959. After 16 (sixteen) years of its inception, the Department introduced Honours / Major Courses in Economics for the first time in 1975. Department of Economics is introducing M.A./M.Sc. course from the session-2021-22 after getting permission to open PG Course in Economics (vide Ref. letter no. BU/CUDC/75/KGC/2016-17/2808 dated 20-09-2021) from the Bodoland University. Since its inception, the department has been rendering its continuous services by its qualified faculties for filling the needs and aspirations of the people of Kokrajhar area in particular and the people of Bodoland Territorial Region along with other adjacent parts of Assam in general.

There are at present five (5) sanctioned posts in the department out of which four (4) faculties are permanently working under sanctioned posts and thee (3) faculties are working under temporary contractual posts.
